Most people use their phone everyday they don’t even know how important their contacts are until the phone gets stolen.Do not be a victim of this, with your MTN line to can simply backup your contacts at any time on a secure MTN online account.
WHAT IS MTN BACKUP
MTN Backup is a service that provides MTN subscribers a simple way to keep phone and SIM contacts safe on a secure MTN online account. It enables you save both the contacts on your SIM, and those on your handset.
You can backup up to 200 contacts on your SIM and up to 5000 contacts on your mobile phone.
This means that, if anything happens to your phone or SIM, you can simply restore your data to your new mobile phone or SIM.
HOW DOES THE BACK UP WORK
In order for you to be able to back up you contacts you have to use the MTN Service menu that comes with you Simcard. Go to the menu options on your handset and locate the MTN Services menu. Then, select MTN Backup.
If you don’t have a sim card with the MTN backup you will need to get the new MTN 128k SIM Card with MTN Backup inside, in order to backup the contacts stored on your SIM.
You might be asking yourself if you need to register for this service, will I can say that the answer is NO. For the SIM contacts, you just need to go to the MTN Backup menu and you can start synchronizing your contacts.
For Handset data, you need to have your handset appropriately configured to start using the service: (http://mtnonline.com/mtnbackup). Handset configuration will be done manually following the instructions on the web.
There are two ways to get started,we mentioned earlier on that you can use the MTN service menu option or you can Text “Start” to 307 to get started.
To synchronization your sim contacts using the sim menu locate MTN service menu click on backup then choose “Backup SIM Contacts” option.
The first synchronization will be billed at a flat fee of N100 and subsequent auto backup synchronizations will be billed at N50.Please note that automatic backup happens every 2 weeks (14 days)
You do not require enough credit to carry out synchronization of data. The service will charge you for the operation and attempt to retry in the next 15 days.
There is also a self care service interface available for those using MTN backup. To access to the self-care interface is via https://mtnnigeria.weballynis.gemalto.com/CloudBackup/index.html then, you will need to login using the information received by SMS.
Just in-case your phone gets stolen and the person inserts another sim card in your phone all you have to do is to call the Customer Care to block access to your own remote backup account until you get another SIM and restore your data. This way, no one else will be able to perform a Backup on your account until you ask for the service to be restored.
If you do a sim swap without informing MTN you will need to call MTN to unblock your line, to be able to start using the services. Access to the self-care interface will be also blocked until you unblock your line.
Another cool thing about the MTN backup is that if you mistakenly delete a contact either from the handset interface or from the remote library they can be found in the “Deleted items” menu of the web interface.
To get them back, you will have to select those contacts in the “Deleted items” page and move them back to the “On mobile” list. At next “Synchronize”, they will be copied again in your handset.
Please note that MTN backup works for all kind of phones however, Windows OS can only Backup SIM contacts not phone contacts.
TO unsubscribe from the service you simple text ‘UNSUB’ to 307.
