Gionee  made a surprise announcement at the recently concluded WMC 2017 with the launch of their new A series smart phones the A1 AND A1 plus.The A1 plus has not really hit the market but the A1 has been launched in india.


Most mobile phones now are designed and manufactured with metal bodies because metal offers durability while also feeling premium.According to Gionee they said the A1  uses A6000 aircraft-grade material that the company claims is used in making premium cars and planes. The A1 comes with a metal back and a glass finish at the front. The metal casing at the back curves at the edges and while the finishing is awesome.


The phone comes with a 5.5-inch AMOLED display up front which offers a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. In the camera department, there are is a 13 MP rear camera with an f/2.0 aperture, phase detection autofocus and a dual LED flash. Since this is a selfie focused smartphone, the front camera has a 16 MP resolution camera with an f/2.0 aperture and an LED flash.






The Gionee A1 uses a MediaTek SoC, the Helio P10 MT6755 which features an octa-core processor and a Mali-T860MP2 GPU. This is paired with 4 GB RAM which is slowly becoming a standard for most mid-range Android smartphones. For storage there is 64 GB internal memory. There is an option to add a microSD card (up to 128 GB) to expand the storage as the smartphone comes with a hybrid SIM tray.

The OS being used in here is the very latest ANdroid 7.0 Nougat garnished with the company’s native Amigo UI (version 4.0) on the top.


In terms of connectivity features the A1 offers 4G LTE with VoLTE support, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS/A-GPS, FM Radio, microUSB with OTG support and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. Other features include a fingerprint sensor embedded in the home button.

Gionee has added few features like Smart Gestures that let you do things like answers calls automatically when you pick the phone up, or pause alarms when you flip it over. Smart vibration reminders can notify you about missed calls and messages while the phone is in standby, and a double-tap can wake the phone so you don’t have to reach for the power button.


The handset is backed by a 4010mAh battery which the company claims can last for up to two days with mixed usage. The Gionee A1 supports fast charging which is a nice feature to have.
