Google release of the new Android operating system known as Android P(pie) has been the talk of the phone industry with Google promising new features on the operating system. Intelligence, simplicity and digital well being are the three major milestones achieved by the Android P operating system. So far Google has rolled out updates on its Google Pixel phones to upgrade from Android 8,0 Oreo to the Android P.

What are the features of Android Pie

Some of the features announced by Google on the new operating systems are highlighted below:

Intelligence

The Google-developed Android Pie improves on the AI worked on the last Android Oreo operating system.

There are virtually new adaptive features with the Android Pie O.S from Adaptive battery whereby the phone would be able to work out which apps you use a lot and utilizing them in an energy efficient manner saving battery

The Adaptive brightness allows for sufficient light to be released from the phone screen and managed the operating system effectively. Android P also ensures that the device can easily predict the APP which you would like to access by utilizing predictive algorithm from your history of Apps use.

Simplicity

Simplicity is another feature that Google announced as there would be a single clean home button which also serves to display predicted apps with a single swipe.  Simplified volume controls have been added and there is a rotational button that displays close to the navigation bar.

Digital Wellbeing

The digital well-being package encompasses the understanding of your daily phone habits and using it to provide users with meaningful engagements. This gives you the analysis of your addiction to your Android device. It would display the number of times you unlocked your device, display notifications received and gives a guide on how you spend your time on your Android device.

Android Pie unique improvements

Android Pie comes with some default apps on the user dashboard such as App Timer which allows you to set how long you want to spend on a particular application and gives a notification when the time is close to being reached.

There is also an automatic do not disturb mode while the google assistant has been improved to prompt users to bed when the do not disturb time is close.

When will I get Android Pie

Android Pie was released on the 6th of August to google pixel phones and the Essential PH-1 phone. However other Android devices would get an update by the fourth quarter of 2018 and should be in line with new phones that are likely to be released by the fall of the year.

However, these update to Android version 9 Pie is not automatic as your phone manufacturer would be the one to roll out an update. Since many phones use custom ROM on top of the Android software this could take a while to be rolled out by many phone manufacturers.
